East Pennsboro Area High School is cracking down on cell phone usage. Hasn’t it always been a rule to not use cell phones during school hours? Teachers speak out and say the problem was only progressing, and it was time it was enforced.
Teachers and administrators have the authority and responsibility to confiscate cell phones whenever the school policies are broken. According to the Student Handbook, page 38, Student Code of Conduct, page 14 and School Board Policy – 238, all cell phones must be turned off and put away upon entry in the morning and must remain off and out of sight during the school day. Mr. Rick Blood demonstrates understanding of the newly enforced restrictions on cell phone use and states, “If I see a student’s cell phone out, I’m going to ask for it.” He also says that at the beginning of the year it was easy to notice the distractions and conflicts cell phones were causing. Blood states, “It seemed to be getting worse mainly because cell phones were easy access for students to cheat on tests and quizzes.” Junior Sam Toth states, “I’ve had my phone taken since the enforcing of the policy and I know now it’s a bad idea to even try and make a call or text during class.” Blood has noticed a tremendous change in cell phone usage and thinks a little more enforcement is all that was needed. Blood wants everyone at East Penn High to know, “I still love all the kids I’ve taken a phone from, no hard feelings.” Readers have left 2 comments. 1.stupidsome one special, Unregisteredno offence to school but these rules are just getting more stupid......i am sry but if i want to text someone that is more important to me then school then i have all right to.....i know what i said wont make a diffrence but still some people are more important then school!!!!!!!!!! 2.gossip laterAnonymous, Unregisteredobviously you should spend a little more time learning how to write properly during school rather than texting jibberish that really means nothing.. i'm a student and i am guilty of texting a few times during class but what need is there to be constantly texting all day long? we are in school for a reason, to learn. you can gossip later. |
