As the Mid-Penn Conference meet came to an end this weekend, most East Pennsboro High Area High School track and field athletes found themselves saying goodbye to their beloved sport until next year. It was an especially difficult time for the seniors, who will never again compete for East Pennsboro. Although most seniors are not participating in track and field in college, they will never have to say goodbye to the basic element of track-running. Triple-jumper and senior Kelley Powers said, “It’s sad to think I’ll never jump again, but I will never stop running.” As the seniors prepare to leave their team behind, the juniors get ready to step in. “We were lacking senior leadership this year,” explained junior Milan Koneff. “Next year it will be a lot different.” Coaches also agree that some improvements can be made next year. “This was one of our least successful seasons in recent memory,” jumping coach and enforcer Erick Hanson stated. Both coaches and teammates have ideas of improvement for next year. “We need our athletes to participate in other sports to stay in shape,” Hanson suggested. Koneff had his own ideas. “Our team needs to be dedicated,” he explained. “There is no room for slackers on our team!” |
