As the East Pennsboro swim team’s season comes to an end, some swimmers will advance to the Mid-Penn conference meet on February 9, 2008, but for those that did not qualify, there was one last chance for them to do their best.
On Saturday, February 2, 2008, Northern high school hosted the Polar Plunge swim meet. Thirteen teams arrived to compete, including school districts such as Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, and Dauphin. The East Pennsboro swim team entered the competition with high hopes, and did not leave disappointed. “We did really well. A lot of people got their best times,” said junior swimmer Kevin Waldman, who received 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 7th finishes.
Many East Pennsboro swimmers had a solid day, as freshmen Carlos Sandoval and senior Jenny Staub both had 3rd place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke, Mike Wright finished 3rd in the 200 yard freestyle, and Sandoval, Wright, Kevin Waldman, and Bryce Sheaffer finished 2nd in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The meet was an overall success for the swim team, and while their record may have been 3-5, Kevin Waldman says, “It’s been a fun year.” On February 9, the swimmers that made Mid-Penns will compete at Cumberland Valley’s pool with hopes of advancing to districts. Sophomore swimmer Stone Cordeiro qualified for Mid-Penns, and hopes that students will come to help cheer on the team. “It’s going to be crowded, but it’s always good to have support,” said Cordeiro. |
