East Pennsboro Area High School is beginning cheerleading and football early this year. With cheerleading tryouts already over and practices starting early for the football players, does this mean the teams are buckling down for a really successful fall season?
Junior Cody “Tank” Miller hopes to have a very rewarding senior football season. He has been playing for nine years and said, “This is our year so we’re going to make it worth it.” Two-hour spring training football practices started on Thursday, May 15. They are every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and are open to anyone who wants to get fit for the upcoming season. Miller said, “About 40 athletes have been attending the early practices and it shows. We have a strong unit.” It is not just the football players working hard; the East Pennsboro cheerleaders have been working hard, too. Tryouts were held in April and 27 girls were chosen for the Varsity squad and around 15 chosen for the Junior Varsity squad. Early practices start in June and mandatory practices start in August, like the boys. Junior Melanie Greene stated, “We lost assets from the seniors this year, leaving the upcoming freshmen with big shoes to fill.” The cheerleaders plan to do more activities as a squad this upcoming season. A carwash is being held on Saturday, May 31 at Bruner’s Auto Repair Shop from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. Greene said, “Carwashes help us bond with each other, as well as, benefiting our team.” All of the cheerleaders’ and football players’ hard work will make this 2008 season unforgettable. |
