Junior David Magaro competed for the state diving title on Saturday, March 18th.
Magaro made a great effort and walked away with a silver medal, which is the highest placement ever achieved by a Mid-Penn diver. Prior to the competition, Magaro said that he was ready for the meet and wasn’t completely sure of his competition. Magaro seemed to come up against little competition as he was leading going into his final dive, only to be slightly beaten by another diver. “The meet was fun, and I can live with second,” Magaro said.Although winning may have been Magaro’s overall goal, he exceeded his own expectations of his personal score. Prior to the meet, he said, “I think that 400 would be a good goal to set for myself and hopefully that will get me close to first place.” Magaro ended up achieving a 412, which he was obviously happy with. As for the future, Magaro is taking almost no down time. With the only diver to beat him being a senior, his goal is set only for a gold medal at the PIAA state meet next year. |
