Tiplady is a senior at Messiah College, majoring in health and physical education. He says he wants to be a gym teacher because he comes from a family that is really involved in athletics. Both of his parents were gym teachers and he loves sports and working with students.

“It’s hard to juggle writing lesson plans, teaching, and keeping up with school, but I really enjoy it,” said Tiplady.

While it is true that Mr. Etter will be retiring this year, Tiplady will most likely not take his place. After college, he is planning on moving back home to New Jersey and getting a job there. However, if the school cannot find another teacher, a permanent teaching job here could be a possibility.

The students really seem to look forward to having him. When I went into one of his classes to interview him, he was playing volleyball with the students and everyone wanted to be on his team. Tiplady always gets involved with whatever the students are doing, which is one of the reasons he is so well liked.

Christine Baumgartner, one of his students, said, “He isn’t strict, but he knows how to keep the class under control while having fun.”
