Milton Creagh visited East Pennsboro Area High School last week and left everyone thinking.
East Pennsboro’s staff decided to bring motivational speaker, Milton Creagh, into our school to talk to the students about life issues such as drugs, alcohol, and other problems that we all face during the course of our lives. Some staff heard about Creagh through numerous sources and decided to attend one of his motivational speeches in Carlisle. They were very impressed by his great message and decided to hire him to speak to the students of East Pennsboro. Many felt the assembly was a great success. “You can’t measure that [success], we just hope at least one life was saved and we know that what we did was worth it,” Vice Principal Stephen Blasco says. Creagh’s passionate talk did hit many of the students and made many realize to try to change. He made students reflect on their lives and realize that some of the choices that they make may not be the best. Creagh told many stories about real people and their experiences, which made the reality of the whole thing greater. Creagh asked many personal questions that could have affected students. He asked that you raise your hand if you knew of someone affected. An outrageous number of people raised their hands for many of the questions. “I was shocked by all the people that raised their hands for his questions,” says sophomore Olivia Nieves. His passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge about life made it more intense for the students. He was an excellent motivational speaker, and many students realized problems not only facing other communities, but ours as well. “He impacted our school. Other people just come and talk, but he impacted,” sophomore Evan Lehman says. By the end of the assembly, many students and even teachers were in tears. “I think it was one of the best things our school has done,” Nieves says. Many hope he returns, and staff is planning on having him return in a few years. “Something as inspiring and impacting as this should not be repeated very often, it makes it too repetitive,” says Blasco. This inspirational assembly, however, was not very cheap. East Pennsboro Educational Foundation funded his speaking event. All the money spent was worth what has been achieved by his unforgettable visit to the high school. |
