With prom approaching, there is a lot of buzz around the school about how much the tickets will cost. Last year, and again this year, the cost of one ticket comes to $60. The question is whether the cost of the prom too high for a high school student? Prom will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Camp Hill on May 3, 2008. This year’s theme will be Arabian Nights. The cost for one person is $60. In my opinion, $60 is a bit expensive for a high school dance. Even though students do eat dinner there, it is still a little costly. Students do not only have to pay for the ticket, they must also pay for the proper attire. For ladies this means a dress, shoes and most girls get their hair done. Total costs can be around $250. Guys must rent a tuxedo and have the proper shoes. All these things add up and there are some people who cannot afford this. There are also some students who have siblings going, which can get a little pricey if your parents are paying. For some students whose parents cannot pay for prom tickets, this means working extra hours just to get the cash to go to a school dance. It does not seem right to make a kid work outside of school and keep up with homework, just to have a little fun. I understand that the ticket sales help pay for the decorations and renting out the room, but I am sure that we could lower the price. |
