Will the war in Iraq end?  Who will be the next President?  Will AIDS be cured? 2008 is a year under constant questioning and many new beginnings.

Senior Allison Owen is greatly anticipating the new year -- primarily her graduation in June. She believes that alternative energy sources will be perfected and that scientists will begin to work on incorporating these sources.

Owen said that cancer will not be cured: “the technology just isn’t there yet.”  She also predicted that new treatments for AIDS would be offered to the public by the end of this year. The senior thinks that the threat of global warming will be replaced with the threat of global cooling “or maybe just global combustion.”

She does not believe that the War on Terrorism will end. “We can’t pull out [of Iraq] before we have finished everything we went to take care of,” she said, “and there is still a lot to be taken care of.”

The senior said that she did not make any new year's resolutions.  Owen is somewhat optimistic about the upcoming elections. “I think Obama has a fighting chance,” she said. “If Hilary gets in, we’re in trouble. Life will end as we know it.”

Senior Tim McLaughlin is not so optimistic about 2008. Because of “poor government,” he does not believe that the war in Iraq will end. McLaughlin reluctantly admitted to thinking that Clinton will most likely be the next President, but he is most anticipating “getting rid of Bush.”

McLaughlin predicted a nuclear war to begin in 2008. He thinks that the threat of global warming will continue to grow: “it’s kind of 70 degrees in January,” he said. The senior believes that neither AIDS nor cancer will be cured during 2008. “The cures would never be mass produced, even if they existed,” he said.

McLaughlin also doubts the creation of a new alternative energy source. “They’ve already found one,” he said, “they just won’t use it.”

This year is inevitably one of dramatic change for all the citizens of America. Only time will tell whether it is for the best.

Yup, we're definitely all in for quite a bit of change. Weird things are going to happen for sure.

Global warming wll continue to exist.

I'm rooting for Obama.
