This year East Pennsboro Area High School put on the production of Pirates of Penzance for the spring musical. It took place on March 7 and 8 at 7:30 and on March 9 at 3:30 in the high school auditorium. To be in the musical students had to go through auditions and callbacks. The main characters were Fredrick, played by Jake Hartwig; the Pirate King, played by Michael Mellon; Ruth, played my Tayrn Sprenkle; Samuel, played by Nick Lucier; Mable played by Nicole Ioos; and Sergeant, played by Anthony Collier. Herb Fowler was the director of Pirates of Penzance, and he did a fantastic job making this musical a success. The cast spent about three months rehearsing the musical before they performed for a live audience. All of the practice must have paid off. “The crowd really seemed to like it," said Nicole Ioos, one of the lead actresses. “A lot of people said it was the best musical East Penn has done so far!” added Ioos. The actors were not the only people working hard to put on this musical. There were also a lot of parent volunteers, stagehands, the lighting crew, and carpenters who helped to create the set and to keep things running smoothly. Although it was a lot of hard work and practice, everyone involved seemed to really enjoy themselves. “Musicals are a lot more fun than people say and think. You should do them,” Anthony Collier said. He loved being a part of the musical. Ioos agreed, “Once you’re on stage, the nerves go away and you just have fun.” Congratulations to everyone who contributed to Pirates of Penzance on their wonderful job! |
