EPHS Principal Mr. Craig Robbins, has decided to combine Basketball Marathon and Dance Marathon into one school-wide event entitled the “EP Extravaganza.”
Kayleigh Evans, a senior this year, said that Robbins decided to combine the two events in order to “save” the fundraisers; teachers could not be found to take control of the two events separately, so he needed to merge them. The Extravaganza will be held in the high school’s new gymnasium sometime in February, and student involvement through committees and donations will remain the same as in previous years. Basketball games, dancing competitions, and “other fun stuff” will be organized for student enjoyment as well as fundraising, Evans said. Jenny Smith, another senior, said that her favorite school sponsored fundraising event was Basketball Marathon. Unlike Evans, she does not think that the Extravaganza is a good idea. “I like it spread out. It gives us a break in class schedules,” Smith said. She is upset that the two events are being combined but said that she “will cope.” Smith plans on donating to the fundraiser but does not think that she will join a committee. She said that she would like to see the school raise money for autism awareness or for the troops fighting in Iraq. Evans said that the money from the EP Extravaganza will be donated to either the Family Fund or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, but many of the details are still being worked out. “I think that because of the usual lack of participation, [the Extravaganza] will raise the same amount of money as usual,” Evans said. Despite her doubts, she is excited for the event to occur. If you are interested in joining a committee or in donating, contact Mrs. Etter in the girls’ locker room. |
