The annual Pennsylvania System of School Assessment tests (PSSA) began on Monday, February 11, 2008 and continued until Friday, February 15, 2008, due to bad weather for East Pennsboro Area High School juniors. They will only take the writing portion of the exam until April. "No one takes them seriously," said junior Jake Hartwig. "The ones that care know they are easy, and the rest don't care." Recently, it became a state condition that schools must put a graduation requirement on the tests. Most schools decided on the requirement being the student must score a proficient or advanced to graduate. "Most people who are serious about graduation should be able to get that score," said junior Scott Lewis, "so it doesn't really add pressure." The testing caused period two and three to switch for the 11th, 14th, and 15th. The juniors took the test in either the cafeteria or their English class. Juniors who had English third period took it there, while all other took it in the cafeteria. "The point of the switch was to get more juniors in their English class." said Lewis. The writing test consisted of multiple-choice, find the error type of problems, and an essay portion. "They essay part will definitely be harder," said Lewis. For some juniors, they get to put their number two pencil away after finishing their last standardized test. For the others, they keep theirs out for the SAT and ACT exams. |
