Two students from East Pennsboro Area High School will be attending Governor's School this summer. Governor's School is a five-week program that runs from June 29 through August 2. Students will learn about fields they are interested in at a very in-depth level. The school is entirely funded by state grants. Everything is covered including the cost of housing, books, food, and other necessities. To be accepted to Governor's School students had to apply all across Pennsylvania. The amount of students that get accepted depends on what field of study they looking into. Rajit Krishnamurthy is a sophomore that is going to Governor's School for business and entrepreneurship classes. He said, “In my opinion it's not taking time out of my summer because I will learn a lot and it looks really good on your resume.” Shannon Kelly, a junior, is taking classes in the sciences. For her application process, she had to write two essays. The first was about one teacher who inspired her and the other was about the overall view of why she should go to the school. Kelly said, “My main reason in going is because I want to get a head start in physics and I think it will be a great experience.” The Governor of Pennsylvania, Ed Rendell, will speak to the students attending the June session. Both Krishnamurthy and Kelly are looking forward to this very enriching learning experience. |
