Each year students at East Pennsboro Area High School can select to assist Miss Laura by interning in the main office. “Interning has helped me with my people and communication skills," said junior intern Taylor Shokes. Interns put mail away, run errands throughout the school and complete call-downs. Interning may only be done if the student has an unassigned period.
“Interns help with the office busy-work,” said Mr. Robbins' secretary Laura Skalkowski. Interns also sign students in and out of school if they came in late, are leaving early, or have an appointment.
“Most of my work is done at the front desk,” said Shokes, which allows other office staff to work on other projects. Working at the front desk allows interns to interact with teachers, fellow students, and parents, which helps build their interaction skills.
“Working in the office has helped students learn how to work in a professional environment," said Miss Skalkowski. Being an intern in the front office has benefited students and staff greatly, and the school plans to continue this program for the years to come. |
