East Pennsboro Area High School's own junior, Maddie Gault is one of the 20 students nationwide to win a trip to Mexico from the National Spanish Honor Society.
“I wrote an essay about Vasco de Balboa and how he had hard times coming to America,” says Gault. Gault had to prepare a five minute video and the essay in Spanish. She will spend July 21 to August 1 in Mexico for her efforts. The Spanish National Honors Society was just approved at East Pennsboro about a year ago. It was added as a branch of Spanish Club for advanced Spanish students. Gault says, “You have to have a 93% or higher average over four marking periods in Spanish and tutor six times per marking period.” Heather Bosnyak, the Spanish teacher at East Pennsboro, is the one who recommended and helped Maddie with this opportunity. “I gave her a list of important historical figures for her to pick from and she picked Balboa,” says Bosnyak. Bosnyak thinks Maddie’s achievement is “fabulous” and is happy that Maddie hopes to become a Spanish teacher. “I am very proud of her,” stated Bosnyak. |
