even though you already know

I’m not worth saving

still, do that one little show of affection

refuse to let me go, keep me in toe

You say so much,

don’t just write this off, not anymore

there’s got to be a reason why you came back here

Something that was finally able to reflect it

How can you look at us with such hope, those poor

hooded eyes

Nah, it’s okay, I get the gist of it all now

Still, I find myself being betrayed

a couple of steps that were meant to lead me down

another excuse, the departure was delayed

always seem to lead me right back there

This is so trivial, so small that no one knows!

You’re everything I’ll never be

so kind and caring, even when those words pull you

down

able to see what can’t possibly be

you never cease to amaze me, never stopping to

When you take those few seconds to just look

staring past the façade that we’ve carefully crafted

there’s no more laughing, just the nervous smile

            mirrored by an unbidden flick

God, this needs to stop

you can’t seriously be lusting after someone like that

Oh, that figures.
